The Sunlight Centre had we hope to be an annual event at the Conservative Party Conference on the 6th October in The Freedom Zone.  We would like to thank the Freedom Zone team of Simon Richards, Jane Broadhurst and all their volunteers based in the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester for the smooth running of the event.

We would like to thank all our volunteers who ventured into Manchester City Centre in the rain to hand out leaflets, they certainly did the trick!

The Sunlight Centre’s event on ‘Disinfecting Parliament’ was attended by a large and eclectic crowd who enjoyed a mini Question Time debate.  Although David Aaronivitch had to pull out due to family commitments we managed to find a very intelligent and articulate replacement in the shape of Will Straw the blogger and founder of Left Foot Forward.  Then Juliet Samuel the Sunlight’s Research Analyst gave a very clear and concise PowerPoint presentation setting out Sunlight’s recommendations for the future of MP expenses.  The robust debate then commenced with Will Straw, John Rentoul, Paul Staines and Mark Wallace.  Although not everyone agreed on the Sunlight Centre’s recommendations the panel didn’t disintegrate into a snapshot of broken Britain!
