Baroness Scotland Fails To Pay Housekeeper’s Tax
According to an article in the Daily Mail yesterday Baroness Scotland had not provided her cleaner with the appropriate tax deductions in accordance with employment laws. This is on top of the £5,000 she has already been fined by the UKBA for failing to photocopy her housekeeper’s passport.
Now she could also face criticism from fellow employers who have been fined for failing to operate the Pay As You Earn income tax system.
Miss Tapui’s tax records show she was paid £2,913 up until April this year, when the financial year ended, but that no tax deductions were made from her wages. Miss Tapui stated in the Daily Mail that Baroness Scotland mentioned tax around the time that the expenses scandal broke in April but then nothing was done.
As an illegal overstayer Miss Tapui stated she was unable to get a bank account so she asked for her pay cheques to be made payable to her husband instead. For an intelligent woman such as Baroness Scotland this should surely have raised some questions.
The Sunlight Centre has already reported Baroness Scotland to the Bar Standards Board over her employment of MissTapui in her capacity as Attorney General/Barrister for bringing the reputation of barristers into disrepute and we await their response.
