Former Civil Service Mandarin reported to Civil Service Commissioners

The Sunlight Centre for Open Politics has reported Sir Kevin Tebbit the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence to the Civil Service Commissioners over recent allegations surrounding his new employment since leaving his post in the civil service in November 2005.  Sir Kevin retired from the MOD in November 2005 to take up posts in academia and industry.  The Sunlight complaint is based around his employment with Smith industries from June 2006 as a board member and then his appointment as chairman of Finmeccanica in July 2007.  Both these companies are defence contractors and appeared to benefit from the defence secretary’s (Geoff Hoon) announcement in March 2005 to let Augusta Westland build the new future Lynx fleet for the army – no other bids were invited.  Finmeccanica owns Augusta Westland and Smiths Industries is a key partner in the future Lynx project.
